Exposing the competitive hunter, jumper, equitation world to the Elk Valley
Alicia Ward-Griffen & Christine Walsh
Alicia and Christine started their friendship competing in Southern Ontario with their respected horses; Triple French and Finesse Boy. From there, Alicia continued her focus on equine education, graduation from University of Guelph, Kemptville Campus. Christine continued success with developing her young Canadian Sport Horse mare and working for a successful breeding facility.
It’s these experiences that have helped them both find the drive to bring Elk Valley Riders into the show ring, and continuing success in the hunter show ring. Continuing education has always been a mutual dedication, in and out of the ring. Attending the workshops for massage therapy, equine first aid and equine nutrition benefits their clients and horses. Attending reputable clinics by John Turner, Wayne McLellend, Elaine Ward, and others, broaden their training and riding scope.

From college, Alicia continued her passion which lead her to Calgary, Alberta, under a Level two coach. After a few years, Alicia returned to Ontario. She continued her coaching and training program, having success in the hunter, jumper and equitation ring, before taking a sabbatical and starting her family.
Alicia and Christine reunited years later, in Fernie BC. In 2019, they came together to forge Grand Valley Equestrian, after training separately and understanding the need to bring their knowledge of this sport to the valley. Their students compete at local provincial shows to international rings, including RMSJ. With quality guidance, their clients reflect a mutual good work ethic and dedication to the sport that fostered their friendship.
